Manchester United led twice against Bournemouth on Friday night but had to settle for a 2-2 draw on the south coast, in a game packed with talking points.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring from the spot just after the hour mark and the Reds felt we should have been awarded a second spotkick when Amad appeared to have been fouled, moments before Ryan Christie levelled for the Cherries.
An own goal from James Hill put United back in front before Harry Maguire - on the day he received a deserved recall to the England squad - was shown a red card by referee Stuart Attwell after being adjudged to have pulled back Evanilson, as Junior Kroupi’s penalty meant it finished level.
As always, fans voted in their thousands to choose the Man of the Match in our poll in the United App and on ManUtd.com. These are the results…
BRUNO WINS IT ONCE MORE
Perhaps unsurprisingly, our captain once again was the winner - topping the poll with a landslide margin for the second successive week.
Last Sunday, the skipper’s two assists in the 3-1 home win over Aston Villa took his tally to 100 overall in all competitions during his time as a Red - the highest-ever recorded in a single Premier League season by any United player, beating Sir David Beckham’s previous record of 15 from the 1999/2000 campaign.
Fernandes was influential at the Vitality Stadium and provided two decisive contributions in an eventful second half.
Our no.8 sent Bournemouth keeper Djordje Petrovic the wrong way from 12 yards to score his eighth Premier League goal of the season in the 61st minute.
Remarkably, the 31-year-old now has 23 goals or assists in his last 22 games in all competitions for the Reds and nine goal contributions - five goals and four assists - in his last nine appearances against Bournemouth.
Ten minutes later, the midfielder delivered a threatening in-swinging corner from which Cherries defender Hill could only divert into his own net to put the Reds into the lead for the second time.
However, because the corner deflected off two Bournemouth players, Premier League rules dictate this does not go down as an official assist - outside of Fantasy Premier League - so Bruno’s tally stays at 16 assists in the league this season.
Bruno topped the rankings for touches, chances created, shots and crosses in the game. Indeed, our Portuguese magnifico has now created 101 chances in the league this season in 28 appearances - the fewest a United player has needed to reach 100+ chances on record (since 2003/04).
With 62 per cent of the vote, Fernandes has won our Man of the Match award for the ninth time this season - including for the second time against the Cherries.
Matheus Cunha came second with 13 per cent after another impressive performance, which included a moment of brilliance to weave his way into the box and draw a foul from Alex Jimenez for the penalty we were awarded.
Finishing third with 11 per cent was Senne Lammens, who had a solid evening, making three saves and could do little to prevent both Bournemouth goals.
Congratulations to Bruno and thank you to everyone who took the time to vote!
