Ten Hag: We must use defeat as fuel

Erik ten Hag believes his Manchester United players must find the fire within themselves if we are to turn around our recent poor run of results.

The Reds slumped to a second consecutive home defeat, against Galatasaray on Tuesday evening, following Saturday's loss to Crystal Palace, despite Rasmus Hojlund netting his first two goals at Old Trafford in our 3-2 defeat.

After an entertaining but ultimately fruitless European contest, the boss empathised with our supporters who have now seen their side lose six times in the first 10 games of this season.

Sensing a feeling of discontent from some sections of fans following the full-time whistle at the Theatre of Dreams, the boss stated how our setbacks on the pitch must be used in a positive manner when moving forward as a group.

“Yes I can understand, they can expect responsibility from the team, for the performance, for the result with my squad,” Ten Hag responded when quizzed by reporters.

“In this moment we don't get the results, they are disappointed, we have to do better.

“As I have said, also I have seen a team with great spirit and also a team that was backed by the crowd from the start until the end.

“In the end, the fans are disappointed as we are. We are also very disappointed.

“But that also has to be fuel and that is the good thing about this team. Every time they find the energy in every game, at the start of every game.

“There was a team with a lot of energy and with a good motivation going into the game.”
