First senior league goals for Reds loanees

Manchester United loanees James Scanlon and Jacob Devaney have enjoyed landmark moments in their careers.

Both Reds recorded their maiden senior league goals in their most recent matches.

Scanlon marked his first start, and home debut, for Swindon Town with a 23rd-minute opener in a 3-0 victory over Oldham Athletic.

While the forward may already have netted at full international level, with Gibraltar, it represents another big step in his progress.

Scanlon calmly found the bottom corner of the net, with an assured finish, after being teed up by Aaron Drinan.

After the game, Robins boss Ian Holloway told reporters: “Am I surprised? No, I am not. Am I pleased? Yes, I am, because I knew he would finish that. That is what he does.

”He's delighted that Man United let us have him. It's what he can do, he plays for his national team, and is only 19. He shows all sort of maturity, he can play two or three different positions.“

Devaney meanwhile scored a belter, as his impact at St Mirren has been immediate.

The midfielder was Man of the Match on his debut in a superb win over Hearts and, 19 minutes into the game with Airdrie in the Scottish FA Cup, he produced a moment that went viral on social media.

The strike helped the Buddies eventually prevail, 2-1 after extra-time.

“I want to challenge myself at this level and improve my all-round game,” he said recently. “I'm really proud and, hopefully, I can bring this into the rest of the season.

”It's a lot different playing here compared to playing in front of little crowds or no crowd at all.

“The football is different but I've had experience of it in the EFL Trophy games. I really enjoyed the challenge and, hopefully, I can kick on from now.

Loan news: Devaney joins St Mirren

“United told me they just want me to get used to the style of football. I'm used to very possession-based football.

”Going into games, we might try to dominate the ball but there may be times where we have to concede having the ball. They just told me to enjoy the challenge, bring the things that I've learned back in the summer, and I'll be a better player for it.“

Congratulations to both players, we look forward to seeing more from you as the season continues!
