Action and reaction: United 6 Leeds 2

Manchester United triumphed in one of the most remarkable home games staged at Old Trafford in recent years, as Leeds United were swept aside 6-2.

No fewer than 43 shots in total were registered by the two sides, who both attacked with intensity from the first whistle.

The Reds were instantly rewarded for that bold approach when Scott McTominay scored not just once, but twice, in the opening few minutes. Further goals from Bruno Fernandes and Victor Lindelof gave OIe Gunnar Solskjaer's men what seemed to be an unassailable advantage, even if Leeds captain Liam Cooper pulled one back for his side with a header to make the half-time score 4-1.

Daniel James marked his first Premier League start since late October with a fine finish, superbly set up McTominay, and Fernandes then completed his double, from the penalty spot, after Anthony Martial was felled inside the area.

Despite staring a heavy defeat in the face, Marcelo Bielsa's aggressive outfit continued to press forward and Stuart Dallas netted the eighth goal of the game with a great shot past David De Gea.

As Solskjaer said in his post-match interviews, both Uniteds could easily have doubled their goal tallies and the Reds were particularly unfortunate not to score more than six, with Leeds keeper Ilan Meslier making a string of saves late in the game to prevent the likes of Edinson Cavani, Fred and Alex Telles adding their names to the scoresheet.
