Mason Greenwood has become the second-youngest player in history to score for Manchester United in the Champions League.
Latching onto Paul Pogba’s through pass in the 21st minute of our 5-0 victory over RB Leipzig on Wednesday night, Mason burst into the penalty area and coolly stroked the ball into the far corner, with what was his first-ever shot in the tournament.
At just 19 years and 27 days, the youngster's strike against the German side puts him behind only club-record scorer Wayne Rooney in the list, who famously netted a hat-trick against Fenerbahce on his United debut in 2004.
In fact, Mason joins a crop of talented English youngsters to score for United in the Champions League while still a teenager, a group which includes David Beckham and current team-mates Phil Jones and Marcus Rashford.
It also means three of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s current attacking options have achieved that feat for the club, as Anthony Martial too bagged his first in the tournament before turning 20 (19 years, 10 months and 16 days) against CSKA Moscow in 2015.
However, in all continental competitions for the Reds, it’s Brian Kidd who still holds the record as the youngest to get on the scoresheet. Kiddo’s quarter-final goal in the European Cup against Gornik Zabrze on our way to winning the trophy in 1968, came when he was just 18 years, 8 months and 30 days old.
