Rooney Reflects: Watch the full interview

Wayne Rooney remains “extremely proud” of his status as Manchester United's record goalscorer, as he continues his career with DC United and - for one final night only - the England national team.

In our exclusive interview to mark his international swansong against the United States at Wembley tonight, Rooney covers a range of topics including his achievements with the Reds.

On the subject of surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton's remarkable tally of 249 goals for the club, the former striker said: “Obviously the closer you get, the more you believe you are going to do it.

“When I finally got the record it was a great moment for me. It was a record which had stood for so long with Sir Bobby so it was a special moment.

”Manchester United is the biggest club in England and is one of the biggest clubs, if not the biggest club, in world football. To be the record scorer for the club is something I am extremely proud of.“

Rooney's 23-minute conversation with MUTV's Stewart Gardner also covers his new life in the United States, his feelings on playing for England again and his views on the current season for the Reds.

In addition, the striker answers questions on three players who fulfill his former role at Old Trafford, namely Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
