It's the beginning of August, which can only mean that Manchester United's return to competitive football is just around the corner.

Here's what lies ahead this month...

1 August: Following our friendly victory over Kristiansund in Norway, the Reds will continue preparations for our final pre-season outing, against AC Milan on Saturday. Make sure you keep across ManUtd.com and the Official App as our televised Premier League fixtures for October have been announced. It's also a special day for Nemanja Matic, as the Serbian midfielder celebrates his 31st birthday.

2: On the eve of our match with AC Milan at the Principality Stadium, the first-team squad will travel to Cardiff. Meanwhile, it also marks former United midfielder and MUTV pundit Sammy McIlroy's 65th birthday.

3: Our final pre-season fixture takes place, as United take on Italian giants Milan in the International Champions Cup. Kick-off is scheduled for 17:30 BST, with tickets available to buy here. You can also watch the action exclusively live on MUTV.

We conclude our pre-season campaign against AC Milan this weekend.

5: As we start a new week by counting down to our opening Premier League game against Chelsea, this day marks 12 years since Nani made his debut for the Reds, against Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley.

In the evening, our Under-23s embark on a new Premier League 2 campaign, opening against West Bromwich Albion at Aggborough Stadium - kick-off is at 19:00 BST.
