Team news for United v Fulham

Monday 17 May 2021 12:00

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to welcome two players back into the fold for the final home game of the season against Fulham.

Tuesday's clash at Old Trafford presents an opportunity for 10,000 fans to return to the stadium and hopefully cheer the Reds on towards three points that will clinch second spot in the Premier League table.

United are looking to bounce back from successive defeats to Leicester City and Liverpool in order to prepare in the correct manner for the Europa League final against Villarreal, with a trip to Wolves, and the chance to go the whole league season unbeaten on the road, still to come before the Gdansk date.

Ole speaks to the media, ahead of the Reds’ final home game this season…

Daniel James and Anthony Martial are pushing for inclusion in the matchday squad for the 18:00 BST kick-off against the Cottagers but Phil Jones and Harry Maguire are definitely ruled out.

Ole has suggested James and Martial are unlikely to start but are working hard to be available for the final on 26 May. Maguire is also doing all he can to ensure he is in a position to lead the Reds out in Poland, even though he suffered ankle-ligament damage against Aston Villa recently.

“We had a couple of days off after the Liverpool match and we’ve welcomed Dan James back and Anthony Martial back so that’s big, big plusses for us,” Ole told MUTV's Stewart Gardner. “We didn’t lose any against Liverpool so we’re fit. We’re only missing Harry and Phil.

“They [Daniel and Anthony] have done all their rehab programmes and ticked all the boxes so a couple of days of training before the game with the team, but they’re not ready to start a game yet. Let’s see. Hopefully, we can get both of them on the pitch and give them some minutes. Let’s see how many minutes against Wolves and then they’re hopefully ready for the final.”

“It’s still too early,” he added, concerning Maguire's situation. “We’re not at the testing stage yet. We’ll give him as much time as possible to recover. We’re not going to see him back in the league so hopefully we can welcome him back for the final. But I’m not sure.”

Youngsters Hannibal, Anthony Elanga and Shola Shoretire have been training with the senior group again and, along with Amad, they will be hoping for an opportunity to impress before the campaign is out. Hannibal, of course, is still to make his first-team bow and is available despite receiving a red card in the Under-23s' final match of the season against Derby County.

FULHAM TEAM NEWS

Antonee Robinson looks set to miss out with manager Scott Parker saying: "It'll be touch and go whether he makes the last game. I don't think he'll be fit for Tuesday." The already relegated Londoners are also likely to be missing Tom Cairney and Terence Kongolo with knee injuries.

Mario Lemina is back after being ineligible to face his parent club Southampton, in a 3-1 reverse at St Mary's on Saturday, with teenager Fabio Carvalho scoring on his maiden Premier League start for the visitors and described as the big positive by Parker afterwards.
