Your United Pic: Women's team

Saturday 29 January 2022 13:30

Throughout the past week, we’ve been asking for your help in selecting six great Manchester United images to display on the Old Trafford forecourt.

Outside the East Stand, you will soon be able to see some snapshots of various Reds-related themes, from club legends like Sir Matt Busby, Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex Ferguson, to classic Old Trafford goals and iconic European nights at our home ground.

Today’s sixth and final category is our brilliant women’s team, who will of course grace the turf at the Theatre of Dreams again in March.

An image from the team's previous match at Old Trafford, an excellent 2-0 win over West Ham during lockdown, features among the eight photos that are available for you to select on our voting page.

After the team was established in 2018, the Reds recorded a memorable first campaign in the women’s professional game, earning promotion to the top flight having topped the FA Women’s Championship in our inaugural season.

Based at Leigh Sports Village, United have since followed that up with consecutive top-four finishes in the WSL in 2019/20 and 2020/21, narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification for the first time in our history, at the end of the latter.

As mentioned above, the team did create history in the closing stages of last season however, by playing at Old Trafford for the first time, albeit behind closed doors, in March 2021.

The Reds will return to M16 later this year under head coach Marc Skinner, who took over from Casey Stoney in the summer, to face Everton with the prospect of playing in front of supporters at the ground on this occasion.

Skinner’s side currently occupy a top-three spot in the league at just over the halfway stage in the campaign and have a Continental Tyres League Cup semi-final to come against holders Chelsea on Wednesday (2 February).

Our journey in this season’s Women’s FA Cup also kicks off this weekend, with a fourth-round trip to third-tier Bridgwater United next up for the Reds, on Sunday.
