How to follow United v Everton

Friday 01 October 2021 10:26

Manchester United take on Everton in our final Premier League clash before the international break at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Reds are once again back in league action at the Theatre of Dreams, making it four home matches in a row, directly following our midweek triumph against Villarreal in the Champions League thanks to a stoppage-time Cristiano Ronaldo winner.

Now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have their sights set on bouncing back in the league after last weekend’s disappointment against Aston Villa.

Alternatively, you can keep across all the action on MUTV via our Match Day programme, starting at 11:35 BST. TEAM NEWS

Harry Maguire is set for a few more games on the sidelines, while Luke Shaw’s situation is still being monitored with our no. 23 having been included in the latest England squad. Ole could provide further squad updates during his pre-match press conference on Friday.

As for Saturday’s visitors, striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains a doubt. The frontman has missed Everton’s last five games with injury.  Seamus Coleman took part in an individual session on Thursday, having not featured for the Toffees since their victory against Burnley in early September.

While the pair seem unlikely to be starters on Saturday, midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin was a participant in full training and could be involved. Brazilian forward Richarlison hasn't been involved in recent weeks due to a knee injury and may face a late fitness test, while Andre Gomes has also been absent from training.

FORM GUIDE

The Reds will look to build on Wednesday’s dramatic win at the Theatre of Dreams on Saturday. United find ourselves on 13 points, just a point behind league leaders Liverpool and the Reds could reclaim first place in the Premier League with a win this weekend. So far in the league, United have played six times, won four, drawn once and lost only once, to Villa last Saturday.

Our opponents have the same record so far this term but sit behind United in the table on goal difference. The Toffees only defeat also came against Dean Smith's side.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

This will be the 205th time the Reds have faced the Toffees and in our 204 previous showdowns, United have come out on top on 90 occasions, while 47 matches have ended with a point each and 67 matches have gone in Everton’s favour. Ole’s team have not lost to the Merseysiders since 2019, winning twice and drawing three times in the last five meetings between the clubs. Last time the Toffees came to Old Trafford, it ended 3-3 with Bruno Fernandes scoring a screamer and Calvert-Lewin snatching a point for the away side in injury time.
