Confirmed: United's team to play Chelsea

The team news has been announced at Stamford Bridge, ahead of Manchester United's Premier League clash with Chelsea at 20:00 BST.

Michael Carrick makes four changes from the side that started Monday's 2-1 loss at home to Leeds United, last time out.

As we look to make an immediate response to that defeat, Diogo Dalot, Ayden Heaven, Kobbie Mainoo and Bryan Mbeumo come into the XI.

Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martinez started at centre-back against Leeds but neither are in the squad tonight. Martinez is suspended following the red card he was shown in the second half, while Yoro picked up a knock this week.

Manuel Ugarte and Amad also come out of the line-up, but are among United's nine substitutes in the capital.

Why Leny Yoro misses Chelsea trip

From back to front in what we expect will be a 4-2-3-1 formation, it's Senne Lammens in goal, behind a defence which could line up in several ways, with the incoming Heaven our only recognised centre-back. One of Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw appear primed to partner the 19-year-old in the middle.

Further up the pitch, Mainoo is back from the training injury that saw him miss the Leeds match, to slot back into the midfield alongside Casemiro.

The Brazilian was on the scoresheet alongside captain Bruno Fernandes in September's reverse fixture, a 2-1 win for United, and our Portuguese skipper is likely to continue behind striker Benjamin Sesko, with Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha on the wings.

Along with Ugarte and Amad, United's bench includes former Chelsea man Mason Mount and Academy midfielder Jim Thwaites, who played the full 120 minutes of our Under-18s' triumph in the FA Youth Cup semi-final at Old Trafford on Friday.

For the hosts, boss Liam Rosenior makes two alterations from last weekend's 3-0 home defeat to Manchester City.

Blues top scorer this season Joao Pedro has a thigh injury, and has been replaced by summer signing Liam Delap up front.

Key midfielder and vice-captain Enzo Fernandez also returns to the line-up, after serving a two-game ban imposed by the club.

He comes in for Andrey Santos, who is named on a bench that also features former United forward Alejandro Garnacho, after the Reds Academy graduate made the move between the clubs earlier in the campaign.
