United’s squad was announced last Thursday, with manager Bryan Robson having an abundance of talent to choose from. Legendary striker Andy Cole has been named as Robson’s assistant manager ahead of the clash.

Dimitar Berbatov and Jaap Stam are just two of the ex-United superstars that Robson will have at his disposal, as the Reds strive to earn victory in front of our home fans.

Paul Scholes, Dwight Yorke and Diego Forlan have, unfortunately, had to withdraw.

LIVERPOOL’S SQUAD

Sir Kenny Dalglish will be in the opposition dugout, and has 22 ex-Liverpool players to pick from.

Jamie Carragher is one of the stand-out names on the Merseysiders' squad list, especially given his friendly rivalry with Neville. Steve McManaman, Jermaine Pennant and Dirk Kuyt will also be part of the visitors' squad.

PREVIOUS LEGENDS MATCHES

United have been victorious in two of the last four Legends matches at Old Trafford, with both coming over Bayern Munich sides.

In 2019, 61,175 supporters turned out to cheer on the Reds in a rematch of the 1999 Champions League final. Precisely 20 years on from that historic night, the same United side that triumphed in Barcelona locked horns with the Bayern team that we pipped to the Champions League trophy.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Dwight Yorke, Nicky Butt, Louis Saha, and David Beckham all scored as the Reds recorded a 5-0 victory over our German counterparts, who fielded a side containing legends such as Lothar Matthaus and Stefan Effenburg.

Reds legends were also victorious over Bayern in 2015, overcoming the German giants 4-2, courtesy of goals from Saha, Yorke, Cole and Jesper Blomqvist.

The two other most recent Legends encounters at Old Trafford have been against iconic Spanish clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Los Blancos’ Legends beat the Reds 2-1 in 2013 with a team containing the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos and Luis Figo showing their class. Four years later, the ex-Barcelona stars visited Manchester and were held to a 2-2 draw. On that day, Dutch legends Ruud van Nistelrooy and Patrick Kluivert lined up against one another.
